As I mentioned in the Normandy quilt color palette post, with every newsletter that comes out I will be highlighting a photo in the newsletter and pulling colors to make a quilt color palette. I will show the photo, give a small blip of where the photo was taken, pick 5 to 7 colors from the photo to make a color palette, and suggest the coordinating color wheel solid fabrics from Connecting Threads. So without further ado, let’s get started!
This month’s inspiration is from a tree that grew in our backyard when we were posted in Suva, Fiji. Frangipani trees (also called plumeria) quickly became one of my favorite trees. Many days I would wear a flower in my hair. I also would bring flowers that had fallen off the tree inside and place in a bowl of water to enjoy their beauty a little longer. The photo has three very different red shades: light pink and dark pink from the flowers and red brown from the stem. There is the light yellow from the flowers and the rich green from the leaves against the light and dark blue sky.
For the color palette, I choose the following Connecting Threads color wheel solids. You can click the circles below or search the Connecting Threads website for each color.
In addition to the solids, Connecting Threads has fabrics with designs using the solid as the base color, I will highlight a couple below. Searching the color name is easiest to see all the pattern options.
